~ BIOGRAPHY ~

Born in S. Jorge’s Island on the 22nd December 1976, Rui Alexandre Leal Vieira had a normal childhood playing and studying until he reached majority.
At this time, after experiencing several unsatisfactory jobs, he finally discovered the one that really gave a meaning to his life: being a photographer.
Through research, reading, several experiences and exchanging ideas with friends, Rui Vieira managed to obtain a unique way of using his camera and capture moments that project in each picture a bit of his soul.
In 2005 he decided to collaborate with his parents and his brother, Carlos Duarte Leal Vieira, also a photographer, and they opened Utilnova Digital in which he works as a photographer and Minilab operator, certified by Fujifilm.
In this digital store, one can find some of his impressive work, as well has beautiful postcards with images of S. Jorge’s landscape.
In 2008 he started a new project with his friend Paulo Lopes, called LightSearchers (http://www.lightsearchers.com), whose main goal is to show to any net traveller the most precious landscapes of Portugal.

During is short career as a photographer, Rui Vieira has seen many of his work published in books and magazines. However, his biggest wish is to be able to travel around the world and capture with his camera his special way of seeing the landscapes and making them everlasting.
Rui Vieira dedicates himself to photographing the landscape, portraits, macro photograph and photojournalism, but Mother-Nature, the surroundings, the sea and the coast of the island are his favourite work, since it is when he is able to apply his masterly skill on the use of composition and light, which results in a unique style.
His favourite time to use the camera is in the morning or the sunset, when the light is magical, the colours are vibrant and the landscape is calm and quiet. These are the moments that truly inspire him.

~ THE PHOTOGRAPHS ~

My photographs combines digital capture and traditional filtration techniques with a simple workflow. Images are shot in RAW format to ensure the highest quality possible. I use Adobe Photoshop CS3 for processing. Adjustment of curves/levels, highlights, burning/dodging, saturation, sharpening and removal of dust spots, is part of routine processing known as digital retouching, such as employed by most professional photographers today. Further manipulation beyond this is not part of the workflow. I create images from single exposures only and light available at the scene. I don't use photo-stitching, composite images, multiple exposure blending techniques. HDR, or any manipulations used to produce images commonly referred to as Photo Art.
